Early Life And Struggling Life Of Indian Boxer Pooja Rani Bohra
Pooja Rani the journey of becoming a professional boxer was not smooth. She was born on 17 March 1992 in Nimriwali village in the Bhiwani district of Haryana state. The Bhiwani district of Haryana has come to be known as the sports hub of India.
Pooja Rani did not have much interest in sports since childhood. But when she entered college for higher education, she started boxing with the encouragement of a female lecturer. The woman’s lecturer told her that you have height, weight, and power to be a boxer. The husband of that female lecturer was a boxer coach.
That female lecturer took Pooja to the inter-college boxing competition where Pooja got the Queen Silver Medal. Pooja Rani said in an interview that she won a silver medal in the inter-college competition without any training. Then the female lecturer took Pooja to her husband for training and from here her journey to become a boxer started.
Pooja Rani Bohra was working in Haryana Police. Her father found out 5 days after she started boxing. Her father said “boxing is not a good sport. Good kids don’t do boxing.” But Pooja Rani said, “if I don’t have a match today, they will think I am scared so let me go today.”
She lost that match that day. She then took more than a year to get admission to Hawai Singh academy. She has practiced 3 times a day without telling her father just for the purpose of learning boxing. She spent months at her girlfriend’s house to hide his injuries. So that the father may not know.
But when her father finds out about the Pooja training, she is forbidden to go to the academy. Sanjay Kumar Sheoran goes to Pooja Rani’s house and tries to convince her father. Even then it took about six months to convince her father. Seeing her daughter’s ambition and attention, her father allowed her to boxing.
As a result, Pooja Rani won her first big win in the state championship tournament in 2009 by defeating boxer Preeti Beniwal. She won a silver medal in the 60 kg category at the National Youth Competition. Seeing her success, the family members supported her, and Pooja’s father gave her a bike as a gift.
Indian Boxer Pooja Rani Bohra Career
After winning the National Youth Championship in 2019, her path for the National became smooth. She then won a silver medal at the 2012 Asian Boxing Championships and another Arafura Games in Australia the same year, making her one of the top qualifiers for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. She then lost at the AIBA Women’s World Championships in 2016 and failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
